Why So Blue?

Inky blue florals. Bold enough to stop you. Livable enough to stay.

Born at the end of summer as the garden disappeared. Inky blues and soft blacks turned into something warmer and friendlier — florals that feel cozy in winter and bright enough for spring. Expressive brushwork, never stiff.

Vignettes

Paintings from a real, collected home. For people who live in one.

These are the rooms Janet actually lives in — the staircase with the geometric-painted risers, the orange room with the fiddle leaf fig and the cat who owns the sofa, the entryway at golden hour. Each painting is full of objects that mean something: plants nursed back to life, furniture that came from somewhere, art made in the same house it hangs in.

Warm, slightly absurd, and completely specific — which is exactly why they work for a customer who collects things with intention.

Plants

Living things. Painted with love and a little irreverence.

I love plants the way other people love portraits — each leaf has a posture and personality. I paint them on bold backgrounds, loosening them up with scribbly outlines that give them movement and life. Fiddle leaf figs, jades, ferns. Still evolving, always growing. Just like the plants themselves.

Wallflowers

 A recurring idea.
Pattern meets still life.

The Wallflowers series is its own thing — stylized florals that aren't trying to be realistic, set against patterned walls with objects on a tabletop below. The painting becomes a composition of pattern on pattern. I keep coming back to this idea, and each new one surprises me a little.

Overall Florals (New Work)

Big, joyful, full of color. Still finding their voice.

These are my newest paintings — bold, multicolor florals that start to feel like they want to become patterns. I'm not sure I've landed on a definitive style yet, which is part of what makes them interesting to paint. Early work from a direction I'm actively exploring.
